We talked about tides today in class. It seemed confusing for most of you. The important things to remember are that:
1. We have high tide when we face the moon, or we are on the side of the Earth opposite that of the moon.
2. As the Earth rotates, it allows us to either face towards the Earth or away from the Earth. This defines what tide we experience.
3. Every 6 hours the tides change from high to low. Thus, in a 12 hour period, we would go from high tide to another high tide.
4. Neap and Spring tides happen twice each month. Neap tides occur at 1st and 3rd quarter phases, and cause low high tides and high low tides. Spring tides occur at full & new moon phases, and the positioning of the Earth/Moon/Sun system causes higher high tides and lower low tides.

I have never understood tides but today i think i got it! The part of the ocean below or closest to the moon is a high tide and so is the part of the ocean the opposite way. Obviously the other two are the low tides. We also learned about special tides(spring and neap tides.) A neap tide occurs during the 1st and 3rd quarter phases, this is what happens there are higher low ides and lower high tides. A spring tide only occurs during a full or new moon phase. The moon has to be between the earth and sun like the positions during a solar eclipse, this causes higher high tides and lower low tides.=]

I thought tides would be impossible to learn, but it is easy. High and low tides occur every day, once. The part of the oceon closest to the moon is a high tide (and the opposite is a high tide, too.) Mr. Bent called on me a lot today when I wasn’t raising my hand which is confusifying, because I was paying attention. Maybe he thought I wasn’t…

Gleek, just to clarify, high and low tides happen each happen TWICE per day.
If we have high tide at 6 AM, it will be low tide at about 12 PM, high tide again at 6 PM, and low tide again at midnight. These times are approximate, but that is basically how it works.

Today in class was very crazyyy!!!!!! But i think that I finally understand the tides!!!!! low tides happen twice a day and high tides also happen twice a day. If it is low tide on one side of the earth than it is low tide on the opposite side and if it is high tide on one side of the earth than it is high tide on the opposite side!!!!! Neap tides happen during first and third quarter and spring tides happen during full and new moon phases!!!!!!!

I was really scared to learn tides because i thought they would be really hard to learn. But thet were not they were super fun to learn. If there are low tide on one side of the earth its low tides on the opposite on the other. Also tides happen every six hours. I love learning to tides it’s really fun!

When we were learning about the tides I was kind of confused at first but then I started to get that low tides happen twice a day and high tides happen twice a day!I also learned that if a high tide happens at 6 AM a low tide will happen at 12 PM.I also had learned from rading my notes that there are such things as spring tides and Neap tides!:)
